Loving the Unlovable
“Loving those who are lovable is easy. But loving our enemies? Well, that’s another story.
A friend hurt you deeply, that person who betrayed your trust—these are the people who are hard to love. Yet, when Jesus was on the cross, that’s exactly what He did. Even, as His enemies jeered, Jesus prayed, ‘Father, forgive them, for they do not what they are doing’ (Luke 23:34). He loved the unlovable.
Jesus’ example and His extravagant love made it possible for us to love others, even those who’ve hurt us, Because of His sacrifice, we can claim the supernatural strength to take a deep breath, rest our head on the Father’s chest, and say, ’I will love my enemies.’ If you are carrying a burden of anger or resentment, put it down and rest in the Lord’s power to help you love even the unlovable…” (Hope)
