Here’s the Best Tip to Overcome Distraction in Your Devotional Life With God
Tip # 3 Write down three thoughts about the passage.
Take the same 3 x 5 card and turn it over. Write down these three words: Inspires, Instructs, Includes.
Look at the verse you wrote. What inspires you in the passage? Is there a phrase that makes you want to praise or pray? Is there a thought or a moment in that verse that moves you? Is there a promise in this verse that comforts you?.. Write the thought that inspires you by the first word you wrote: Inspires.
Now, look at the next word: Instructs. What precept or principle is mentioned in this verse that teaches or is an instruction for you. Is there a truth in this verse that reminds you of a problem you are facing?..Write what you see as God’s instruction for you by the word you wrote earlier: Instructs.
Now, look at the third word: Includes… Look for how you are included in the promise, principle, precept, proclamation, or prohibition in the verse…Now, write one sentence by the word: Includes: You could start it with This verse includes becludes me because…
I want you to take that card with you for twenty-four hours and set an appointment on your phone to read it over at least four times in the next twenty-four hours. If you prefer nighttime Devotions, then read it before you go to bed, when you get up in the morning, when you have lunch, and then again when you have supper.”
