The Last Supper

Over the next eight posts, I am going to be sharing with you what I am learning from the Lenten Study 24 Hours That Changed The World by Adam Hamilton.

The first chapter is about the Last Supper, which at that time was a Passover Seder. Passover commemorated Israel’s liberation from Egyptian slavery.
During the Last Supper, Christ instituted Holy Communion. Communion, the new Passover, commemorates Christ’s death and resurrection; which liberates the entire human race from slavery to sin and death, and offers a new life in Jesus Christ to all who receive Him.
Jesus’ last 24 hours tells us the story of God’s amazing love. He gave His Son to die in our place. He placed His love upon us, made us His children, forgave our sins and remembers them no more.
From Hamilton’s book:
“We leave that meal free, knowing our Savior, choosing to follow Him, accepting His grace and mercy in our lives. It is a celebratory event, filled with joy because it represents our salvation. We call it ‘Eucharist’ from the Greek word for thanksgiving. It is a profound and holy meal, filled with good news. That is how it is meant to affect us.”
When facing His death, Jesus wanted to be with His closest friends. Like Jesus, we need close friends to help us along a sometimes difficult path of our spiritual lives.
Again from Hamilton:
“I am wondering if you have spiritual friends like that, people who will pray you through tough times, people you can talk to about the faith, people you can confess to and who can confess to you — people who carry you to Jesus.”
Thru Communion, the Last Supper reminds us of Christ’s love and sacrifice and leads us to the same love for one another.
To be continued…
