3 different neighbors exclaimed “Susan, What are you still doing here?!?” I was supposed to leave yesterday at 8 AM; and at 7 AM, my travel companion Pat graciously called, and told me I had to reduce my clothing by 75%. Otherwise she felt she would be confined to the driver’s seat!! She was exhausted from worrying all night about telling me this; and so didn’t feel up to starting out until this morning. I assured her it was no problem and pretty quickly repacked just my favorite clothes. I then spent yesterday afternoon, coordinating Google Maps with AAA maps her friend Charlie had used on a previous trip.
I am so glad we left this morning at 6 AM. The weather was beautiful and the traffic was light. The time I took to plan out the travel was so beneficial. We stopped every few hours at rest stops or Cracker Barrel’s; arriving at our second Cracker Barrel in Portland, Maine at 6 PM, where we are spending the night in Pat’s Roadtrek RV free of charge.
We listened to “Anne of Green Gables”, a radio theatre audio production; which made the time fly. I drove the RV about 25% of the time to give Pat a break. At our last rest stop, Pat misplaced her keys; we searched the van for them. I prayed that God would help us to find them; and after unzipping the compartments in her purse, I found them.
The last error was realizing I hadn’t brought my passport. (All the years my family had travelled to Canada when my children were younger we had never needed them.). As it turns out both my mother and Pat had thought they should ask me, but then forgot when this morning came around for us to leave. I quickly called Paul and he took it to a Fed Ex that will overnight it to the Cracker Barrel where we are staying Tuesday morning.
So we are going to visit Kennebunkport, Maine on Monday; and maybe some light houses in Portland on Tuesday, before heading to Campobello in New Brunswick, Canada.
