An Amazing Invitation
“The Lord was sitting on His heavenly throne. Angels flew around Him, singing praise: ‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts!’ A powerful voice made the doors of the smoke-filled room shake—and seeing all this, the prophet Isaiah cried, “Woe is me, for I am undone!”(Isaiah 6: 3, 5). This vision of God in all His holiness and glory made the prophet painfully aware of his utter sinfulness.
Yet this same God is the One to whom James called us to draw near. Forgiven and cleansed by Jesus’ blood, we are invited to move up close to our holy God—and the promise is that God will lean down to us rather than pull away or hide.
The God who controls lightning, the God who sent down fire when Elijah asked and later took him to heaven in a chariot of fire, the God who used the great nations of Assyria and Babylon to bring the promised punishment to His rebellious people, and the God who manipulated the legislation of the Roman Empire and arranged the stars of heaven to signal the Messiah’s birth; this same God is the One who, through James beckons us to draw near.
The Lord is still sitting on His throne, but He invites us to share it with Him. Let’s thank Him for His astonishing grace!…” (Thankful)
