”If you’ve ever watched a lifeguard on patrol, you’ve noticed that he or she scans the water constantly. Being a lifeguard requires diligence, focus, and discipline.
Just as a lifeguard guards a pool, you need to guard your schedule diligently.? Say yes intentionally and say no gently, but firmly. Refusing to let your schedule become overcrowded ensures that you have time for the people and things most important to you—and that you have time to rest.
Guarding your schedule doesn’t mean excluding people from your life or never helping when asked; rather, it allows you to be more thoughtful and prayerful in what you agree to take on. It helps you avoid burnout, and it allows you to create time for rest and rejuvenation. This is actually doing a favor not only to yourself, but also to your family, friends, and community. Because the more rested you are, the more you’re able to give yourself to them…” (Rest)
