Dancing Before the Lord
“Have you ever been so filled with joy that you couldn’t help but dance? What would it take to bring about that kind of response in you? One thing for sure: when that level of joy hits you, it won’t matter who’s watching.
This is the only instance in all of Scripture where this word for dancing (karar) is used. The word describes a twirling and whirling type of dance. Can’t you see David with his arms outstretched and his head thrown back as he spins with pure joy? What could have caused such a reaction?
The arc of the covenant was coming back to Jerusalem; the presence of God was returning to David’s kingdom. What if we got twirly-whirly excited over God’s presence in our lives? The presence of God isn’t just in our city, but within us! That should cause us to dance with our might before the Lord…” (Joyful)
