Friendship with God
“Teresa of Avila reportedly said,’Prayer is nothing else than being on terms of friendship with God.’ And so it is. Consider first, how you speak to a friend: not awkwardly, but comfortably, with love and a sense of security, knowing you are listened to and not merely judged. Next, consider what you tell a friend: the big, the little, and the everyday, the good, the bad, the confusing, and the clear. What do you, in turn, offer your friend? A listening ear, eagerness to hear what he or she has to say, readiness to soak in whatever bits of wisdom are offered.
Then think for a moment about those you consider worthy of your friendship, people who have earned your trust, your respect; people you know you can count on no matter what.
Because Jesus cane, you can speak directly to God—not awkwardly, but as one who knows she is both welcomed and loved. You can tell Him everything, big or little, and all things in between. And you can know she will answer in wisdom and grace.
No one is worthier of your friendship than God, no one is more reliable in sunshine or in rain. And prayer is the pathway to your friendship with Him…” (Thankful)
