The Halifax Explosion and The Titanic Disaster
Our day began at the Maritime Museum in Halifax. We were interested in the two exhibits in the title. I knew nothing of the Halifax explosion. It occurred Dec 6, 1917 when two ships collided in the harbor, one carrying munitions for the First World War. It was devastating.
I also had not realized that Halifax played such a role in the burial of those lost in the Titanic.
A sad fact is that the same techniques as far as labeling and collecting personal belongings to the correct body were used again when the explosion occurred.
After having a delicious lobster roll of 5 oz. of lobster sautéed in butter and garlic on a soft roll, we drove to Peggy’s Cove where a glacier had deposited huge granite boulders.
